Android 5.0 Lollipop:

Google has released a new version of its operating system for smartphone and Android tablet called Lollipop. Here is a series of questions and answers, most important, to explain a bit better what is hiding in this sweet name.
Android Lollipop, what is it?
Android Lollipop is the latest version of Android, the operating system of a billion mobile phones worldwide. Lollipop is the fifth major version of Android ever since Google launched the operating system in 2008. Its predecessor was Android KitKat (4.4.2), launched in 2013 and present in a quarter of all Android phones. Most phones capable of running KitKat should be compatible with Lollipop.
Why is it called Lollipop?
All Android versions from 2009 (Android 1.5) use code names inspired by local specialties of pastry and confectionery, as "Donut" or "Gingerbread". There was much speculation about what would be the nickname of Android 5.0. The names are in alphabetical order, so it was likely that this new version starts with L. The letter was confirmed at the Google I / O 2014, but the name Lollipop known to the public only in October.
How much is Android Lollipop?

Android is free. You do not have to pay for it, but you'll need to enjoy a new generation of compatible phone.

Where can you download Android Lollipop?

Each manufacturer will distribute the update to Android Lollipop by its usual channel discount. For Nexus devices from Google, you can download Lollipop from the official website when it becomes available and update the device manually using the SDK file of Android. But for most cases, the update will be carried out online.

What phones that will receive the update to Android Lollipop?

To date, we know that the devices will receive the Android Lollipop update are the series of Nexus (4, 5, 7, 10), almost all of the newer phones from Motorola (G, X, E, Ultra Droid , Droid Maxx), the last HTC One (M7 and M8), LG (G3, G2 Pro) and Sony (Z3). Samsung S4 and S5 will also receive the update, but a little later.
What will change for my phone with Android Lollipop?
Lollipop changes a lot, but the three major changes concern the design, safety and notifications.
The new design of Android Lollipop is called "Material Design". Admire how it looks in these screenshots. The appearance is quite minimalist and very clear with new animations and new navigation buttons.
About security, Lollipop has a default encryption of your data, which prevents anyone from gaining access if you lose your phone. These and other improvements are that Android is becoming safer and is approaching iOS on this area.
Finally, something you enjoy, it is the new notifications that appear on the lock screen, a feature that Android was not proposing to date and could only be achieved with third-party apps like the excellent Dash Clock.
